We recently remade our company newsletter from a simple plain text affair to a simple, but elegant HTML newsletter. The first attempt at this utilized a combination of the Simplenews and Mimemail modules. This, however, didn't work as expected, so we went with a partially custom solution.

Tips : Give your Drupal blocks a more descriptive HTML ID attribute

I don't know about you, but I like my HTML ID attributes and therefore my CSS selectors to be descriptive. It makes both my HTML and CSS more readable, and lets me scan a document more effectively, locating the section I need with relative ease.

If you create a custom Drupal block the system will typically output a line of HTML which might look like this:

From a Large Static HTML Site to a Drupal Powered CMS

The Need

The Archdiocese Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (Archdiocese) wanted to use its Antiochian.org web site to promote awareness and understanding of the Orthodox Faith and the work of the Archdiocese.  They needed a web site to serve as a tool for effective communication to various audiences, including persons within the Archdiocese, other churches, the general public, and the press.

How I converted an HTML template into a Drupal 6 theme

The excercise uses Drupal's core default theme called Garland and mercilessly steals portions of theme code from it to paste into the correct places in the new HTML template. I've got screenshots below that show the windows for Garland open right beside my HTML template window so I can make direct comparisons between the files and their contents.

Here is my original default theme and some sample content:
